Shoot One

In this particular photograph which I have taken and edited, I have tried to portray the models personality. Particularly, her personality is outgoing and very lively, she is a typically happy person and always smiles. The specific image was taken in a college environment; she is used to this specific place which enables the image to look more relaxed and natural. In the edited image on the right, I have darkened the photo which contrasts with the models happiness. The camera which I used to photograph these images was a Nikon D3000. Also, I tried a range of techniques to achieve the image which I am presenting. This particular image is overexposed, it is not bright enough to compliment the models personality. Personally, I like this image however, I do not think it is greatly successful due to the lack of lighting, the image is dull. If I were to reshoot this photograph, I would ensure that there was enough light to make the image bold and stand out. Also, I would change the point of focus so that it is more on the models face. In the last image out of the 3, I have erased the background of the portrait ready to experiment with different techniques, such as overlaying.

In this specific image, the original image was underexposed and the background ruined the image. Also, the photo is focused well on Bethany’s face however the image appears to be too sharp, you can tell this when looking at her hair. I like the angle of this particular image because Bethany is sat on a rock yet the image has been taken from the same level rather than being underneath. I also believe that this image is effective because Bethany is in the foreground of the photograph with the background slightly blurred which immediately draws the attention to her due to the fact that Bethany and her personality are the main focus of the image. In this image, the lighting is natural which doesn’t really add or take away from the image; the natural lighting connects the model more with nature because beneath the surface of the model, she is connected with nature. However, the colours which Bethany is wearing contrasts with the grass and trees around her, she stands out because her personality is bright and bold rather than just blending in with the background of the image. The main concept of this image is to show that beneath the surface of many people, they can be a different person to what they portray. Also, when editing this image, I took into account Bethany’s vibrant personality and tried to enhance this through the editing of this photo.

In this image, I have tried to interlock two different colours of nature from different trees. To do this I have taken the photograph with the burgundy tree in the foreground and the bright green trees in the background. Before I edited this image, I believe it was too underexposed due to the lighting being natural rather than artificial. By editing this on Photoshop, I have enhanced the brightness which also compliments the point of focus which is the tree in the foreground. I particularly like this image due to the contrast in the colours of the trees. Also, I like the contrast in the trees because it shows the change from summer to autumn with the different coloured leaves which I believe is effective. My idea behind this specific image is to show that many people can change and many people hide their true personalities and thoughts. As well as this, I like this image because of the two different colours of the leaves, this indicates that every person has a different personality because everyone is unique. The main point of focus in this photograph is on the red leaves.

In my first edit of this image I have tried to create a more abstract effect by brightening the greens within the image. I like these edits because one aspect of it shows the reflection of the tree much clearer in the water which links to my main idea of showing personalities within people. In my opinion, I don’t think these edits are very successful because they appear to be too overexposed which makes some particular parts of the edit appear blurry. Also, the point of focus in these images is the reflection of the tree in the water. In these images, I think the angle of view is interesting, it seems slightly abstract because the reflection of the tree looks straight however, the background is not, mainly the rocks. By shooting this specific image I have decided to try photographing trees and flowers rather than water and rocks.

I have photographed these images in the Burn Valley Family Woods.   To capture these images I used a Nikon D3000 camera. I tried a range of techniques such as different angles and different lighting. I think that many of my images are successful because they are similar to the still life and landscape images which I focused on shooting for my ideas. Even though this is a successful shoot I do not believe it fits with my idea of using bright colours to overlay and complement the portrait photographs. If I were to reshoot these images I would ensure that my focus is better.
