Dan Mountford

Dan Mountford is a freelance graphic designer who is most well known for his double exposure photography, which he describes as “a visual journey through our minds by calm and tidy means which the reality of everyday life does not show”. Mountford captures his dual subjects beautifully, giving life to new composite images that take on unique, surreal forms. The exposure used by Dan Mountford is created entirely by camera with no Photoshop used.

This is my favourite image by the artist Dan Mountford because there is not only just one element to the composition. I think that this image is very unique and entruiging because the model has no face, it is just an outline. Also, I like the way the image has been edited to be in sepia but the main butterfly overlaying the model is brightly coloured which catches the viewers eye. Also, what makes the image more effective is that there is no shadows which means that all of the viewers attention is on the model. As well as this, I think the 3 lines covering the model are effective because although they are covering her, they are not overlapping the face which indicated that the outline of the models face is more important. I think this image could be slightly brighter to ensure that the photograph is not dull however on a whole the lighting is good. Overall, I believe that the main concept or idea of this image is to portray the models personality and feelings; the model is delicate and fragile like a butterfly but also bright and lively beneath the surface. This image shows that people are judging the model even though they may not even know her. This particular image relates well to my idea because Dan Mountford is showing peoples personalities through overlaying different images.
