Shoot Two

This photoshoot was an experimental shoot to see which techniques work best when photographing abandoned building and I believe that the use of apperture is the most successful as it tends to capture the small details in the photographs such as the rust. Some images in this photoshoot aren't as successful as the others however this was my aim to enable me to gain an understanding of how to conduct mt next photoshoot. When taking this shoot, I used a Nikon D3200 and I have taken them in an old abandoned factory near Seaton Carew. Some of these photographs are slightly too overexposed due to the use of natural lighting and not artificial. The further ideas that these images have given me is to experiment with apperture and different types of compositions such as framing composition and asymmetrical composition. It has also given me the idea to experiment with the rule of thirds. I think that this eperimental shoot what quite successful as it achieved the aim which I had hoped for.

I particularly like this photograph because it uses framing composition really well. I really like the way the the 'frame' is quite dull whereas when you look through the window it is bright with bold colours which shows the contrast between two different places. The only thing that I don't really like about this image is the use of apperture because in order to have the background in focus, the foreground had to be slightly out of focus - mainly the area around the broken window in certain places. However, I think its quite effective that the shards of broken glass are still in the window frame which I think adds to the effect; if the broken glass was not there, I dont believe the image as a whole would be as effective and interesting. This photograph is quite successful because it shows the contrast between two settings but also it shows how certain abandoned areas can be dull but also that other abandoned areas can be quite bold and eye catching because of the bright colours and in particular in this photograph the rust. When looking at this image as a whole, the main point which draws your attention is the main post in the centre of the photograph with the rust at the bottom because it is quite eye catching because it kind of has an ombre effect with the colour at the top then slowly fading into the rust at the bottom. My main idea behind this photograph was to incorporate framing composition into my idea of showing a contrast between two different things. This photograph didn't achieve my main idea of contrasting between not so appealing things and 'Sublime' objects however it did achieve the aim of using framing composition successfully and interestingly.

My favourite part about this particular photograph is the use of apperture because it has enabled the main point of focus, the shards of glass, to be more prominent and more eye catching when looking at the image as a whole. As well as this, I particularly like the sharpness of the image where the glass is because it makes it more interesting. The main point of focus in this photograph is the shards of glass which are in the window frame due to the fact that the edge of it appears darker from the way the light has reflected off it. I think that this image is successful because the only section of the image which is in focus is the shards of glass in the middle, the foreground and the background are not in focus which automatically draws your attention to the glass.

This photograph takes into consideration the rule of thirds quite well as the plug socket is located mainly on a powerpoint. The contrast within this image is really interesting because all of the intricate details such as the rust are easily seen and your eyes are automatically drawn to it. When taking into consideration the apperture, the main point of focus is the plug socket, in particular the rusted socket because this area of the image is most in focus with the background being blurred and out of focus. This photograph doesn't particularly link to my initial idea but it is a really interesting and intriguing image to look at. I think this photograph would be more effective if the shadows were not present in the foreground of the image because although they make the plug socket mroe prominent, they are still a negative aspect of the composition.
