Shoot Six

Within this photoshoot, I have used flowers which was my original idea but I have also taken images without the flowers to use when overlaying with flowers and petals. When taking these images, I have used a Nikon D3200 and have taken them at an old abandoned church in Embleton near Castle Eden Walkway. I particularly like the ones with the flowers in the door and in the wall because they look as though they are growing from where I have placed them. However, I have experimented with different flowers and placing them in different places but I don't think that the red roses are as successful as the red and yellow flowers. Also, I have experimented with petals rather than whole flowers but I don't think that it worked as well as I had hoped because the petals can't be seen that well. If I were to retake this shoot, I would possible use different flowers and also put more flowers into the composition to make them look more realistic.

This is one of my favourite photographs from this photoshoot because of the contrast between the colourful flowers and the brown door and wall. I think that the intricate details such as the cobwebs on the door make this photograph more interesting because it adds to the whole composition. Another aspect of this image which I like is that the flowers are not centred and are on the side of the image; the rule of thirds has been considered in this photograph because the flowers are located on 2 of the powerpoints on the right hand side of the image. Asymmetric composition has been used in this image because the flowers are on one side but not on the other, however there is still a great amount of detail on both sides of the photograph.

I have edited both of these images but the photograph on the right, I have decreased the vibrancy of the image which makes the flowers seem slightly more dull to fit with the background of the image although, they still stand out from the rest of the image because I have increased the saturation. I particularly like the way that I have used apperture within these images because the foreground of the image where the flowers are is in focus however, the background is not in focus which draws your attention to the flowers more which is the main point of focus within the photographs. When looking at the flowers in this image, I really like that colour of them because they are quite vibrant and interesting so they make you focus on them more than the rest of the image.

These two images have been edited similarly to the ones above; I have edited them both but in the second image I have decreased the vibrancy and increased the saturation. I really like the way the the flowers look as though they are growing through the cracks in the wall because it looks as though it is man vs. nature. As well as this, I like the contrast between the bold flowers and the dull background because it draws your attention to the flowers more. The main point of focus in this image is the flower which is facing the camera because it is the area in this image which is the most in focus. If I were to retake this image, I would take into consideration the rule of thirds and ensure that the area where the flowers are would be on a powerpoint to improve the quality of my image and to make it more successful overall.

When looking at this photograph as a whole, I quite like it because there is a lot of contrast in the foreground of the image with the flowers and the moss on the window legde. However, I do not like that the flowers at the top of the image are not in focus because I think that it would be a more successful image if they were in focus. Although, the main point of focus in this photograph is the area where the flowers are in the cracks in the wall because this is the area which is more in focus. I think that although this image is successful as a whole, the bottom half of the image is too underexposed; the first image is too overexposed in the top half of the image and the second image is too underexposed in the bottom half of the image. This is due to me photographing a section of the window with natural lighting coming through because the light has resulted in the images being less successful.

Although this image does not necessarily relate to my initial ideas, I quite like this photographs because in a sense, it used framing composition around the edges of the image from the tree branches. As well as this, I like the way I have edited it because the branches look like silhouettes and the image overall looks really dull because I have decreased the vibrancy and saturation of the image to make it more atmospheric and eerie. If I were to change an aspect of this image, I would increase the saturation rather than decreasing it to make the grass look more bold and vibrant rather than being dull and blending in with the whole composition.

I really like this particular photograph because of the high contrast between the building and the grass and the moss; I really like the contrast between the gravestone and the moss because nature is taking over the man made object and the grass around it is overgrowing and overpowering the gravestone. As well as this, I have experimented with apperture which is interesting because the background of the image is slightly blurred but the foreground where the gravestone and the moss is, is in focus. Although this image is quite successful, if I were going to reshoot it, I would ensure that I photograph all of the gravestone as I think this would make the image as a whole look better. When experimenting with overlaying techniques, I think this image would be useful when overlaying with flowers as it would give the idea that the flowers had been laid on the grave by someone which would be interesting. I don't think this image would be as successful if the colours were not high in contrast and were not vibrant because the colours attract your attention and make you focus on the details within the photograph. The main point of focus in this image is the moss at the bottom of the gravestone because when you look at the image as a whole, your eyes automatically focus on that aspect of the photograph and also on the gravestone itself because although you cannot read the writing because of the angle that the photograph has been taken, it is still in focus and makes you want to know what it says.

I have edited this photograph in two different ways because I really like the high contrast in the black and white version but I also like the contrast in the coloured version. I think that the black and white version shows a lot more contrast on the window panes but the coloured version shows more contrast on the wall in the foreground of the image. If I were to re-edit this image, I would edit the coloured version to make the plants in the bottom of the image more bold and prominent so that it links with my idea; also I would enhance the saturation of the overgrown plants which can be seen through the windows. This image would be more successful if I had captured more of the area, including the ground, because then it would be useful when overlaying with flowers because the flowers would look as though they were growing from the ground rather than just being placed on the photograph.

I quite like these two images because of the angle which I have taken them at; I have photographed from a lower angle than usual which has enabled me to photograph part of the floor as well as part of the roof. As well as this, I like both the black and white version and the coloured version of this image because they are both high in contrast which makes them interesting to look at because every intricate detail can be seen. If I were going to re-edit these images, I would re-edit the coloured version and increase the vibrancy and saturation of the plants in the image under the window to make them more visible and more eye catching.
