Joanne Coyle

Joanne Coyle focuses on photographing small details within a certain area; she focuses on photographing decay such as rust, peeling paint and smashed windows. As well as this, within her photographs there is high contrast between different textures and colours which makes them more interesting and intriguing to look at.

This photograph is really interesting because of the colours of the electrical box in contrast with the rust and the wall around it. The main point of focus in this image is the orange electric box because it is the most in focus and your eyes are automatically drawn to is as it is very bold and high in contrast. I think that if this image was sharper then it would be more successful because all of the intricate details such as the cracks in the wall would be seen a lot clearer and the image would be more eye catching and appealing.

Although this image does not necessarily link to my work, I think that it is very interesting and intriguing because the wood is all going in different directions. I really like the colours within this image because they contrast but seem to fade into each other at the same time; the peeling paint and decay of the wood results in the colours blending together which is unique. Although this photograph is interesting because of the level of decay of the wood and the paint, the composition is not very interesting because it is a still life image with no background or foreground. Also, apperture has not been used to make one area of the image more prominent and the other more blurred. However, even though apperture has not been used, the main point of focus where your eyes are drawn to is the edge of the wood which is facing a different direction to the rest with the nail in it. This is because, Joanne Coyle has taken into consideration the rule of thirds and the nail which is holding the wood in place is located on a powerpoint which makes the photograph overall more successful and more interesting to look at.

I really like this photograph by Joanne Coyle because of the contrast between all of the different textures within the image. I quite like the contrast between the pattern on the windows and the texture of the broken glass; the texture of the rust, the peeling paint and the decaying wood is quite interesting also because it is very bold and eye catching. This photograph is really successful as it has many different textures and colours within it and the composition as a whole is very intriguing. Although, when looking at this image as a whole, it appears to be slightly off being straight which makes the image less successful. I think that if this photograph was sharper then the intricate details of decy would be more visible and bolder when looking at the image because the peeling paint on the right hand side seems slightly blurry due to it not being sharp enough.
