Jose Romussi
Jose Romussi was born in Chile where he studied landscape design. Over the past few years he has gained a significant following for his silk screens and collages in which he combines black and white photographs with colorful forms of embroidery. Romussi takes vintage black & white photographs and sews over some colorful thread adding a playful touch to the frozen postures of the models. He is especially attracted by dancers and ballerinas that seem very sensual but inaccessible at the same time. Romussi is using the dynamic in each picture, working over it with needle and thread, creating something new out of the old, bringing the old costumes of the dancers back alive.

I particularly like this image because it has a feminine aspect due to the pink and red flowers. Also, I think this image is effective because the flowers are overlaying the models face which indicates that the model may feel insecure and is hiding herself and her personality from everyone else. I really like this image because I think its really interesting to look at because although the flowers and pale colours are very feminine and pretty, the model is wearing a leather jacket with studs on which contrasts and creates a more edgy feel to the image on a whole. I think that Jose Romussi thought about this image and tried to create this idea which turned out to be really effective. When looking for inspiration for my work, this image is the main photograph which gave me an idea to experiment with. Due to deciding to photograph abandoned places and places which aren't particularly nice and placing flowers in the area to show the contrast, I am also going to photograph these places without the flowers and overlay the images with pressed flowers. To expand my idea, I could experiment with sewing flowers into the images like this photograph by Jose Romussi. The only difference will be that I won't be using models I will be photographing places.
