Maria Grossmann
Maria Grossmann is a German stylist who lives in Hamburg and who works mainly in Europe. Maria began her career as a photographer but realised that she was more interested in creating a scene to photograph than the actual art of photography itself so she switched careers and began her path as an interiors and food stylist. These photographs by Maria Grossmann have inspired my work greatly because she uses flowers and places them in abandoned places/decaying areas to looks as though they are growing from the walls; it relates closely to man vs. nature however she has manipulated the image to look how she wants rather than just photographing places that have been taken over by nature.
I really like this photograph because of the contrast within the image; the wall is decaying and the paint is all cracked but the flowers are bright and bold and almost makes the wall behind it look more appealing. I think that the wall behind the flowers is very interesting and intriguing because of the crumbling paint and the rust on the pipes; I think that the wall in this photograph is a really important aspect of the image because although it is just a wall and doesn't have major amounts of decay, it is still very intriguing because of the rust on the pipes and the way that the plant has been placed in the composition is really interesting. I quite like the way that the photograph isn't really high in contrast and it seems quite calm with pastel colours but it still draws your attention because of the decay on the walls and pipes and the flowers being in a place where you wouldn't necessarily see them.
This photograph by Maria Grossmann is similarly interesting to the first photograph due to the decaying walls behind the flowers. I think its interesting the way the flowers look as though they are growing from the cracks in the walls and also the way that the cracked paint is layed on the stairs where it has fell off. This is interesting because it makes the photograph look more natural and realistic whereas if the flowers had just been placed on the stairs and the area had been cleaned it would not have the same effect.
